I've been writing poetry for a long time. Looking back, some pieces I love, some leave me cold, some I still marvel that they sprang somehow from my hand. Perplexingly, the accounting of which is which varies each time I read them anew.
I've also found over the years that my own feelings about a particular piece do not predict well how strongly it will speak to any given reader. The relationship between text and reader is a very personal one, as dependent on chemistry, mood, and disposition as any first date. I long ago gave up matchmaking. Instead, I let variety and breadth run rampant in a wide-ranging compilation of 75 works entitled -- in the tradition of all underground artists with deep catalogs but no exposure -- Greatest Hits, Volume One, available as an e-book here or on Amazon. I'm sharing some of my favourites here. I hope you find something that speaks to you. |
