in some way fractured
from what we think
we could should would be
if only

i am scattered
i piss away my energy and time
on trivial things
i conceive grand designs
but execute
just vague sketches
my intentions bear scant fruit
to the relentless tick-tock
of dissipating seconds

perhaps you are broken

or perhaps you are focused
marching so intently
to some bright, shining summit
you constantly seek
but never see
cut the gauze of life like a razor
and never feel its touch

unable to find space for anything
but the story of your striving
even feeling – just maybe – a queasy little thrill
as your ship tips forward
on the next foaming crest

broken one and all
heaped glinting to the horizon;
and yet so easily
lifted in tender hands to the light
become more beautiful than dangerous

a blazing jewel
the soul of the world
the music of the endless dance
